Hillman Tilley
Our latest project arrived in March 2017. It is a Hillman 10HP Light Utility (TILLY) owned by Keith Ball of Preston Lancashire.
In 1907, William Hillman and Breton Louis Coatalen laid the foundations of the Hillman Motor Car Company, located in Ryton-on-Dunsmore, near Coventry England.
The first Hillman vehicles were powered with large engines. Later Hillman were to launch the mass production of small, light vehicles powered by 1.35L 4-cylinder engines. The company was successful with their Hillman Model 14 and produced it until 1928. During 1929 the company started experiencing financial difficulties and was taken over by the Humber Company.
In 1931 the Rootes group was established, it was a commercial enterprise consisting of British Car Makers Hillman, Humber, Singer, Sunbeam and Talbot. The Hillman trade mark was preserved within Rootes and became their primary name for production.
1932 saw the introduction of the Hillman Minx. The Hillman Car 4×2 Light Utility Truck (also known as the Hillman Tilly) was basically a military version of the Hillman Minx 10 saloon.
